Wouldn’t you have liked to have been there?
When the widow’s boy came back to life…when the5,000 were fed with a first century “lunchable”…when the religious lawyers were so embarrassed that they backed away…when the sea was calmed…when God spoke from Heaven…when the stone was rolled away… wouldn’t you have liked to have been there?
In HIS Story we have attempted to present the story of Jesus as recorded by His closest friends, Matthew, Mark,Luke and John in a new way. It is an exciting alternative to the traditional first four books of the New Testament, which are called “the Gospels.” It allows you to follow the story of Jesus in its own words, yet written as a simple, seamless account.
Our goal is simple. By reading this our hope and prayer is this:
“You will know Jesus like you’ve never known Him before.”
As you read HIS Story we want you to feel the dust of the land, smell the freshness of the sea, hear the crowds, taste the bread and see the faces of the characters in Jesus’life. In short, we want you to feel like you have walked and talked with Jesus.
We wanted to make the harmony of the Gospel accounts to read smoothly and easily, so that you can read it just like you would read a novel. But HIS Story you’rereading is not an ordinary story. You are reading the account of the most significant life ever lived on planet earth. By reading HIS Story, we pray that it will change the way you live and view life. Its reading will lead to a transformation into an absolute conviction that this man,Jesus is exactly who He claimed to be – the one and only Son of God.
Historian, Kenneth Scott Latourette writes, “As the centuries pass, the evidence is accumulating that, measured by His effect on history, Jesus is the most influential life ever lived on this planet.” What an understatement! In essence, as observed by reading The Story or the Bible, everything that has, is or ever will happen hinges on His Story – the story of Jesus!
HIS Story is the actual, God-breathed words of the gospel accounts. Each chapter and verse was thoughtfully and carefully excerpted, harmonized, and placed in chronological order. Transitions were written by various pastors on staff to smooth over the changes in location or to help the reader better grasp what was happening. All the transitions appear in italic. The section titled“Scriptures Referenced” at the end of each chapter will show you which Gospel, chapter, and verse were included in the specific chapter of His Story. We have also included some footnotes, maps and additional materials that might assist the reader to grasp the context and importance of each account.
