Roger Storms was called to Chandler Christian Church (CCC) to lead the church in a new, healthier direction. Founded in 1926, this traditional church had many wonderful people but had undergone a leadership trauma and had no sense of direction. The church simply was meeting each week, because that is what churches were supposed to do. CCC is located in the wonderful city of Chandler, 25 miles southeast of downtown Phoenix, one of the fastest growing communities in America. In the past 20 years, everything about Chandler Christian Church, other than its commitment to biblical teaching, has changed. Using the Purpose Driven Church model has the church looking outward at a largely un-churched area of young, two-income families. Today, CCC is classified in the select group of megachurches with approximately 1,500 other churches in the U.S.
Roger Storms was CCC’s youth pastor in the late 1970s before leaving to lead other congregations and then returning as our pastor. Upon returning to Chandler, Pastor Roger was deeply influenced by Dr. Joe Ellis and his books, “The Church on Purpose” and “The Church on Target.” Dr. Ellis referred him to Saddleback Community Church as an example of success. Implementing Saddleback’s Purpose-Driven philosophy, Roger and CCC leaders began developing a Purpose Driven vision, purpose, and structure eventually being awarded a Purpose Driven Health Award by Saddleback.
Chandler Christian Church’s mission is “to help everyone develop an ever-deepening relationship with Christ.” CCC is an independent Christian church governed by the Board of Elders and led by Pastor Roger and staff mobilizing hundreds of volunteer ministers. Our heritage and beliefs grew out of the Restoration Movement. We strive to live out simple, New Testament Christianity and work toward unity in the body of Christ.
“We are not the only Christians, but Christians only.”
“In essentials, unity. In non-essentials, liberty. In all things, love.”
“We want to be one, that the world may be won.”
